What Are Mega Evolutions?
Mega Evolutions represent one of the most exciting battle mechanics introduced to the Pokemon universe. First appearing in Generation VI, Mega Evolution allows certain Pokemon to temporarily transform during battle, gaining incredible power boosts and sometimes even changing their typing.
Unlike traditional evolution, Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations that only last during battle. To trigger a Mega Evolution, trainers need two things: a Mega Stone specific to that Pokemon and a strong bond with their partner. This unique mechanic has made Mega Evolutions incredibly popular among competitive players and collectors alike.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game has captured the power of Pokemon Mega Evolutions through stunning card designs. Our database tracks all 132 unique Mega Evolution cards, helping you build the ultimate collection.

In Video Games
In the main Pokemon games, triggering a Mega Evolution requires specific conditions:
- ✓ Pokemon must be holding its specific Mega Stone
- ✓ Trainer must have a Key Stone (Mega Ring, Mega Bracelet, etc.)
- ✓ Can only Mega Evolve one Pokemon per battle
- ✓ Transformation lasts until battle ends
In Pokemon TCG
Mega Evolution Pokemon cards work differently in the Trading Card Game:
- ✓ Must evolve from corresponding Pokemon-EX
- ✓ Usually ends your turn when you Mega Evolve (unless using Spirit Link)

- ✓ Remain in play permanently once evolved
